Question

My Shopify Payments are showing up as this Shopify Transfer St and it is saying I can't categorize them into Sales of Product Income because it is a liability account?

Here is the error I get, This account is set up as a liability account. To accept this transaction, either disconnect the account or change its category type to bank or credit card.  It should be easy to just put the category as Sales of Product Income like I did for Faire, Etsy, etc.  It is just a transfer of Income from Shopify to my checking account.

Hello there, userfreese. Let me share insights about the data mapping error that you're experiencing.

Note that QuickBooks depends on the data mapping or details when you set up your Shopify Payments. The transactions can't categorized into Sales of product income because your Shopify Payment is set up as a liability account. As a workaround, I suggest manually adding the transactions into the account register and then matching it afterward.

To begin with, open an account register. Here's how:

  1. In Settings, select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Decide what account register you want to review.
  3. Click View register from the Actions column.

Once done, add a transaction to the account register:

  1. Select the Add journal entryAdd check, or Add deposit dropdown menu at the top of the list.
  2. Click what type of transaction you want to add.
  3. Set up the fields to complete the transaction.
  4. If done, hit Save.

After that, you can now match the downloaded transactions.

In syncing your Shopify to QBO, I recommend contacting Shopify for the data mapping.

On the other hand, I'll leave an article for your guidance once you categorize online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online
