Newly-created Memorized Reports will not open. Old reports are fine.

Quickbooks Desktop 21. Up to date (though nagging me to update to 22).

Have Re-sorted Memorized reports to no effect. Have not been able to verify/rebuild data because people are working right now. Hoping to see if anyone else has another tip.

On Friday we created a couple new Memorized Reports. These were done by Reports > Custom > Summary > Added an Account filter. Very basic. We memorized them and saved them under a header named My Reports. If I choose literally any other memorized report (of which we have dozens), they open right up. But these two new ones do not do anything. No hourglass, no indication that Quickbooks is thinking, no activity at all. If I go into the report list, rightclick, and choose "view", the same occurs. Just no reaction at all. This occurs on two accounts on two different computers.

I've seen this question asked before, but usually people are saying it's all of their memorized reports. Again to be clear, this is only occurring with reports we created on Friday.

The report wasn't tough to create and could be replicated easily, I just don't get what could have gone wrong. Like I said I haven't had the opportunity to verify/rebuild since it's Monday morning and everyone's hard at work.

You've come to the right place for answer, I-Already-Had-A-Username.

Thank you for sharing the steps you went through regarding the memorized reports in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). I'm pleased to provide different troubleshooting steps with the report that does not display correctly.

To start with, let's re-sort the report lists to resolve data damage. Let me show you how:

  1. From the Reports menu, select Memorized Reports, then choose Memorized Reports List.
  2. Click the drop-down arrow and click Re-sort List
  3. Hit Yes to confirm.
  4. Re-open the new memorized report to verify if it's already working well.

If the issue persists, I'd recommend running the verify and rebuild tool. Failure to open the memorized reports occurs when the data is damaged. Since they're still working, I'd advise doing it when they don't have anything to do with the company file.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Window menu and select Close All.
  2. Choose the File menu and select Utilities.
  3. Click Verify Data.
  4. If you see a specific error, go back to the Utility section.
  5. Hit Rebuild data. This process will start as soon as the backup is finished.
  6. Tap OK

Once done, re-open the new memorized reports to verify if it's already performing well. If the issue continues, I'd suggest using the QBWin.log to find and fix data damage. For the complete instructions, check out this article: A memorized report does not open or open a different report. Directly go to Solution 1, step 3.

Additionally, updating your QBDT to the latest release will fix some issues on your company file. See this link for the complete steps: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Unfortunately doing the data rebuild ended up deleting the reports, but I guess that is better than having dead reports hanging on.
