Question

On customer invoices, should there be a line or row showing the sales tax percentage? It has that line in the body of the invoice in the Desktop version. Thanks

Good evening, @fsms2024-gmail-c

Welcome back to the Community!

The invoices in QBO don't include that by default.

However, you can confirm by opening up the customize invoice template menu, and checking there for any option to show/hide the sale tax percentage.

Please come back and let us know what information you find out so we can help you add that or if we need give you the steps to give feedback to our Product Developers. I'll be waiting for your response!

I still haven't figured out how to make sure the "sales tax %" line shows on an invoice.  I tried what was suggested by someone a couple of weeks ago but the option to add it did not show on my end.  After reviewing some Help menu options in QBO, I think I figured out the problem.  Should I have the sales tax in the Products & Services list?  Mine aren't.  I have sales tax calculating correctly and I'm able to get the liability reports for each state I pay.

If it needs to be in the Products and Services list, please advise how to do so.  the qbo videos and suggestions are kind of vague

Thanks again,

Lori

Thank you for your follow-up, Lori. I appreciate your persistence in seeking a solution. Allow me to address your concern and provide some clarity on displaying the sales tax percentage on invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

QBO calculates sales tax based on the customer's address, tax-exempt status, and the products or services you sell. Adding the sales tax percentage as a product or service is not advisable, as this can cause issues with tracking sales tax reports.

I want to acknowledge that QBO doesn't display the sales tax percentage on each line item of an invoice. However, you can view the total sales tax amount at the bottom of it.

I understand the importance of this information for you and your customers. At this time, the most effective approach would be to communicate your comments directly to our Product Developers.

To send your input, here's how:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Go to the Gear icon located at the top-right corner of your screen.
  3.  Under the Profile section, select Feedback.
  4. Type in your suggestions and then click on Next.

Consider manually adding the sales tax percentage to the description or a custom field on your invoice as a workaround. This approach will enable you to display the tax rate information, even though QuickBooks doesn't automatically show it on each line item.
