Once an employee is switched over to a contractor, how do I pull up the payments for the year in quickbooks online?

It's nice to see you in the Community, jklamfoth4.

Transitioning an employee to a contractor can involve a lot of changes, including how their payments are managed and tracked. Allow me to assist you in generating the report that will show payments made to the contractor during the year.

If you set up a 1099 contractor, we have several reports that will display all the data you need in QuickBooks Online (QBO). To bring up one, simply follow these steps:

  1. In your company, navigate to the Reports menu on the left panel and type any of the following in the search bar: 1099 Transaction Detail Report, 1099 Contractor Balance Detail, or 1099 Contractor Balance Summary.
  2. Click the Report period drop-down and select the correct period.
  3. In the Accounting method, section, select Cash or Accrual.
  4. Tap the Customize button if you wish to add more details to the report.
  5. Press the Run report button for the changes to take effect.

For a detailed list of reports that let you see all payments to vendors that need to go on a 1099, including the totals, accounts, amounts, and other details, see this article: Create 1099 reports in QuickBooks.

In addition, the Transaction List by Date report will also show payments made to vendors or contractors. Follow the instructions outline in this article to open it: Run a report with vendor totals. Make sure to filter the correct transaction type.

I've got some resources that cover several topics about personalizing the look and data on reports, managing missing contractors, and correcting inaccurate amounts in the tax form. Take a look at each article to gain more insights about the process:
