Question

Opening transactions within report

I have always been able to double click a transaction within a report and it open the actual transaction, so I can look at it.  My file is not allowing me to do this.

I don't know if it is a setting, but I am rather annoyed because I have used this all the time in the past.  Now I've got added steps involved to drill into the transaction for the info I need.

This happens when this system is using multiple monitors. QB needs to be on the main monitor, for the Drill Down function to work.

I have an all in one computer, so no dual monitor.

Oh: this also happens when someone uses JE, which is hardly ever used, and not used when Name are needed; not for AP, AR, QB Payroll, QB Sales, Sales taxes or QB Inventory. So, when someone makes this mistake, they decide to Go Around the problem by leaving the first line blank. That makes a Second problem = cannot drill into a JE from a report. Two Errors, in reality.

I have inputted checks and bills, but cannot drill into them from a report.  I also use an all in one computer, so I don't see how it might think dual monitor.

I am having trouble opening a report in Desktop Pro 2020. I initially had a problem in the 2016 version and QB told me it was because i needed to upgrade. Now I am sitting here with a $300 upgrade and the same problem.

Thanks for following on this thread, @A1231.

I have a few troubleshooting steps you can try to help open the report. First, download the latest release, as this will help ensure proper performance and functionality.

  1. Go to the Help menu at the top to choose Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. This will open another window where you can select the Update Now tab.
  3. From there, mark the Reset Update box to remove the previously downloaded updates and then hit the Get Updates button.
  4. When the Update QuickBooks Desktop window opens, choose OK to continue.
  5. Once the download completes, close and reopen QuickBooks to kick off the installation.

Next, open the company file and then run a report. If you continue to get the same result, access the sample file to check if the issue is with the company file or the program itself.

Here’s how:

  1. Tap the File menu at the top and select Close Company.
  2. In the No Company Open window, click the Open a sample file icon and choose a company file.
  3. Once it’s open, pull up any reports.

If none of these steps work, repairing QuickBooks can help fix unexpected behaviors when using the desktop program. Follow the recommended steps in the Repair your QuickBooks Desktop for Windows article.

Stay in touch if you have any questions or need further assistance working in QuickBooks. I’ll be right here to help you. Have a good one.

had the same problem - went to main screen, on my mutilate screens - too easy

September 26, 2020

here is something I just found that is weird to me.

My laptop with 3 external displays (4 total) , when set with the built-in display as the "make this my main display" check box checked, I can open quickbooks and display report zoom in details only on that screen or screen 4, but if I set monitor 2 as main, then i can open zoom details on all 4 monitors.  (all 4 displays are 4k 3840x2160

hope that helps yall as i need to have quickbooks not on the laptop screen.

Well its now November 2020 - I've read all your replies. Since this is STILL a problem after 2 years???? Really Quickbooks.

It does seem to be which monitor you are on. However, this problem, of not being able to click on a figure is ridiculous that you have to be on a certain monitor.  I am in a CPA firm and normally have more than one client open at a time.  I do not think having to switch monitors is an answer in this day in age.  Quickbooks needs to correct this issue ASAP.  It is costing everyone time and money.

so do you have more than 1 screen? If so does the report let you view if you move quickbooks to your primary display?

i have 4 total screens

I can see details of report on primary - screen 1 and screen 4 Sony 4k TV

i orginally thought it was because laptop screen is 4k and tv was also, screen 2 and 3 were not, but i just replaced 2 and 3 with 4K and i still have the same 1,4 work 2,3 do not. if i change the primary monitor to 2 or 3 i can only view details on the primary. very weird. and a pain

I appreciate the complete details you've shared, @SCIT.

I'm here to guide you to the best available support that can further check the setup of your multiple monitors.

Given the specific scenario you have, there would be a need to securely look into the configuration of your multi-monitors. That being said, I'd recommend contacting an IT professional or our Technical Support team. A specialist can conduct a secured remote access session to check your computer's configuration. Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Enter your concern, then select Continue.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us:
    • Start messaging with a support expert.
    • Get a callback from an expert (availability may be limited).

Should you have questions about other QuickBooks topic, I'm just a post away. Hope you have a great day.
