Order of GL accounts in reports

I have assigned numbers to our GL chart of accounts thinking that my P&L especially would follow the numbering sequence.  Wrong!  is there a way within QB Desktop to re-order presentation of accounts without exporting to excel or using a separate program?

When using account numbers, accounts to normally sort themselves by account number, within each account type.  If they're not doing this, try re-sorting your chart of accounts.

 

To do that, pick Re-sort list from the Account button at the bottom of the Chart of Accounts window.

 

After doing that, then the P&L should display the accounts by account number, at least within each grouping (income, expense, ...)

I know how essential for your business to keep the account numbers organized. This lets you get a more detailed breakdown of your expenses, income, and other categories. I'm here to help ensure the information mentioned above will show correctly on the financial statement. 

 

There's no need to use another program to change the number sequence on the Profit and Loss. You'll have to select Default from the Sort By drop-down, so the order of the account numbers are arranged in order on the report.

 

  1. In your Profit and Loss report, click the Sort By drop-down and choose Default.
  2. Press the Refresh button for the changes to take effect.
