I have a P & L with a large negative Net Income amount where the $ and the - is printing on a line by itself above the number, how do I fix this?

Let me explain why it is displaying this way, Learning2024.

The net income amount will appear as a negative in the Profit and Loss report if it is posted to an expense account. amount of the deposit will show as a negative in the Profit and Loss if it was posted to an expense account. However, if it's categorized as an income, then the amount is positive.

You'll want to drill down each transaction by clicking them and double-check if it was posted to the correct account to ensure your books and reports are accurate and up-to-date. On the other hand, let's perform troubleshooting steps to fix the display of the dollar ($) and negative (-) characters above the number. This odd behavior sometimes happens because of browser-related issues. You can log into your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account in a private browser. Use the shortcut keys to access them:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P

With incognito mode, this deletes cookies and browser history leaving your browser clean and easy to access any websites and error-free. Once done, check the characters if it's already showing correctly. If so, go to your main browser and clear the cache to fix the problem. Cached files and data can sometimes cause a webpage to reload. Also, some browsers have a setting that can cause a page to reload automatically. On the other hand, if it is still not working, you can use another supported browser.

On top of that, QuickBooks provides articles that will provide information for your company. I've included an article that will help you track various areas of your business. Consider reading this for your reference: Customize Reports in QuickBooks Online.
