I'm using the basic version of QB Online.  How can I use tags to show profit and loss by job / project?

thanks

The project feature is only available in QBO Plus or Advanced. Another option, use QB Desktop Premier.

Welcome to the Community, @FajitaShorty. Thanks for reaching out to us with your query regarding profit and loss using tags in QuickBooks.

Based on your description, it seems like you're using the Simple Start version of QBO. As 4Gal mentioned, the job/project feature is only accessible for QBO Plus, Advanced, and Accountant.

Moreover, you can still use the tags and add them to your transactions. You can run this report on Profit and Loss by Tag group since this is accessible. Also, I recommend upgrading your QuickBooks account so you can utilize the functionality to add tags in projects.

To see which reports are available on your version of QBO, refer to this article: Reports included in your QuickBooks Online subscription.

In addition, you can personalize your reports by customizing, you can check out this article for guidance: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

I'll gladly help you again if you have more questions about tags and profit and loss in QBO. I'm always here to help. Keep safe.

I'm bewildered and upset that QBO doesn't have the same basic features found in the Desktop version. How am I to track P&L in my version?

thanks,
