I am looking to be able to create the P&L Budget Performance Report in QBO and it does not exist.  However, it does exist in QB Desktop.  Any ideas as to why it is not an option in Online and how to get Quickbooks to make it available?  Thanks in advance!

Hello, NancyVining.

I can provide information about the Profit & Loss report that you'd like to pull up in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Currently, the ability to filter the Profit & Loss report by account is unavailable in QBO. However, you can manually export the report to Excel and customize it from there as a workaround.

Here's how to do it:

  1. At the top of the report, select the Export icon. Then click Export to Excel.
  2. Save the file somewhere you can easily find, like your Downloads folder or your desktop.

I can see how having this option would be helpful for you and your business. I highly suggest sending feedback directly to our product developers. They are always looking for ideas to consider on how to improve QBO.

Here's how to submit feedback:

  1. In QBO, click the Gear (Settings) icon at the top right.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then tick Next to submit feedback.

In case you need it, I'll add this article that tackles customizing reports in QBO for further guidance: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

I also recommend visiting our website for more tips and other resources you can use in the future: Self-help articles.

I'm only a post away if you have more questions about reports or anything else QuickBooks. I'll be here to assist. Stay safe.

Thank you, but that export to excel is not what I am looking for.  That would require me to manually add a column with the annual budget every single month by line item.  Very time consuming for me.  I will send a suggestion to the developers.  I'm not sure why this wouldn't be an option in Online.  All nonprofits, churches, etc need the ability to see this information monthly.

Our church has used this report in QBD for many years. Please consider adding to QBO.  I thought QBO would save us time, but so far that isn’t the case.

So glad I saw this!  I've got three clients and have been investigating a possible change to QBO. We use this report all the time for all three clients.  QBO is missing so many things. : (

Adding to the discussion here. I also have struggled to work with QBO in this one regard, I need a P&L Budget Performance Report.

I'm not sure why it's hard to give us what we had in QBD. I have been able to create a P&L report, and even a statement of financial activity report that would suffice, except it won't show budget line-items that have not had activity within the timeframe of the report. So a budget line that is only used a few times a year, won't show up until something is charged to that line. Making one of the points of the Budget Performace Report (what hasn't been spent...) a non-starter.

If I include inactive lines, it includes every deleted and inactive lines from years prior.

If there was a fix to this active/inactive line then i could maybe make the other reports work.

And...the excel option is crazy. I'm making line-specific reports for 10+ employees monthly.

I know that having a Profit and Loss Budget Performance report is significant for you, @jd76cliff.

As of now, the specific report you're looking for is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

I can see that achieving this process would be a great addition to the program. With this, I encourage sending feature requests to our product developers outlining this suggestion. They're genuinely interested in hearing your input and highly encourage you to send your suggestions.

Here's a quick guide on how:

  1. On the upper right corner, click the Gear icon.
  2. Under Profile, choose Feedback.
  3. Type in your suggestions.
  4. Then select Next to submit.

Additionally, I'll be providing you with this article just in case you want to personalize the appearance and layout of your sales forms for an effective way to enhance your business communications in QBO: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts.

I’m here to support you in every way because your success is my priority, and I want to make sure you feel confident and empowered in managing your financials. I look forward to assisting you further and helping your business continue to flourish.

Is this report still unavailable? This is an essential report, and 2+ years of waiting for a simple feature is unacceptable.
