Same Problem Here!

I do remember having this issue before something to do with "modern and old style invoices"

Maybe a glitch with the new update?

Let me know if someone figures it out.

Kind of a pain with out progress invoicing.

Thank you for joining the thread, @JW Custom. I'm here to guide you and share some insights.

Progress invoice is unavailable in the new invoice layout. For reference, you can read this article: Set up and send progress invoicesAs a workaround, you can switch back to the old layout. However, It may not be possible to switch back to the modern style once you have switched to the old style.

Here's how:

  1. Open the Invoice.
  2. Click the Old layout button.
  3. Select Switch layout.
  4. Then, Leave and submit.

For your future reference, you can check this article to record invoice payments: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.

Hello there, @duncanclou. I'm here to help you ensure you'll able to create a progress invoice without smoothly.

To verify, may I know if you receive any error when creating a progress invoice? That information is a great help so I can provide a timely solution.

In the meantime, we can perform some troubleshooting steps to determine if this is related to your web-browser. Before we start, let's first ensure that the Progress invoicing feature is turned on in the Accounts and settings menu.

If verified, and you still unable to create one, you can use a private browser to log in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account. This does not store cache which has the potential to become corrupted and cause unexpected behavior. Below are the shortcut keys you can use:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari: press Command + Shift +N

Once signed in, you can create a progress invoice again. If this works, I recommend clearing the cache of your regular browser to eliminate piled up data. If the same thing happens, you can use other supported browser or device. It might be that the current one you're using has temporary issue with the program.

I'll be here ready to lend a hand if you have other questions or issue regarding creating a progress invoice in QBO. Just leave a comment below and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

I have tried private browsing in both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome.  I have also tried clearing the cache in both browsers.  I do not receive any errors.  When I turn on progress invoicing and then create an invoice it does ask me if I want to bill in full, bill a percentage or manual entry.  When I select any of the options the invoice does not show any type of percentage complete once it is opened.  It looks like a regular invoice even though I have selected the template for progress invoicing.

I can see how hard you tried here, @duncanclou. Your effort in performing the recommended steps above is truly appreciated and I want to thank you for updating us on the result. Allow me to assist you further by sharing some information and making sure you'll be able to use progress invoicing in QuickBooks Online.

To begin with, I want to make sure that we've activated the Progress Invoicing feature on the Account and settings and that it has been saved correctly. I'd suggest clicking Save first before hitting Done so the program will acknowledge the changes made.

When creating a template for progress invoicing, be sure to use the Airy New template as this is the only template that works for progress invoices.

Additionally, be sure to select your created template every time you create an invoice. You just have to click on the Customize button on your Invoice page.

If the same thing happens, I'd suggest checking your Accounts and Settings again and verifying if Progress Invoicing is still enabled. This will help us determine if the issue aligns with the recent reports we've received regarding Progress Invoicing being disabled when attempting to convert an estimate into an invoice. Let me know in the comments below, I'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Moreover, I've included an article that'll help you record invoice payments, whether it's a partial or full payment: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online

DON'T BELIEVE THIS WAS SOLVED!!!!!

Just spent 2 hours on the phone with the help expert on screen share. After all that her answer was "that's the way it is now until we get it fixed. 90% of my invoicing is progress invoicing so this program is basically useless right now!

Why is this marked "Solved"?  It sounds like a lot of users are still unable to Progress Invoice after the latest update.

I have not been able to progress invoice since the May 6th update and it is impacting my productivity and my ability to communicate payment info to my clients.   I've spent far too much time trying to get this to work over the past year (all the steps listed above) and for what; an Airy New Template?

Seems like QB Online wasn't broken and I'm not sure what was fixed.  I do know the cost of my subscription went up in that time and I've not complained.   Please get this fixed ASAP.
