Question

QB 2016 Open Invoices report no longer sorted in chronological order

I need my Open Invoices report to sort by customer name and then each open invoice for that customer to be listed in chronological order, oldest invoiced date first. My report has always generated in this manner and now today it is listing the invoices out of order.

When I click on "date" on the report, it sorts the entire report by the date so the report is no longer in alphabetical order by customer name. I have searched the Q&A section but have not been able to find an answer that has worked for me. I already attempted "edit" and "re-sort list" but that did not affect this report.

Thanks for any help provided.

Allow me to assist you in ensuring you'll be able to run an open invoice report where you can see your desired details in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, ABerg.

We can toggle the report from Descending to Ascending to refresh the report. This way, it will show the customer's name in order when running the report. Also, make sure to manually enter the correct period in the Date field. Let me guide you how:

  1. Access the Open Invoices report.
  2. Go to Customize Report, and select Display.
  3. Filter out the required Dates.
  4. Select Default from the Sort by, toggle Descending order, and click OK.
  5. Tap Refresh.
  6. Go back to Customize Report, and select Display.
  7. Put a checkmark next to each column that you want to appear in the report.
  8. This time, toggle Ascending order, click OK, and tap Refresh.

If the same thing happens, we'll need to re-sort the customer lists only. It makes your lists go back to their default order. So if you have manually changed the order of your list, re-sorting will undo these changes. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Customer Center.
  2. Click Edit at the top left of QuickBooks.
  3. Select Re-sort List
  4. Tap OK.

If the problem persists, we can verify and rebuild your data in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac to fix any damaged data issues. Just follow the steps and details in this article: Verify and rebuild data in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately you lost me in the first step, I cannot find "customize report" anywhere. No buttons on the report itself and cannot locate it in any of the drop down menus. When I use the HELP button and search, I get "no results found"
