We have Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise and I am trying for the first time to use the Budget function.  I am trying to create a new PnL Budget with Class using the prior years data but when I do this it is coming up blank.  We have data in Quickbooks for years so I am not understanding why it would be blank.  Any ideas?

thank you

Hi there, @ndedinas.

You'll want to make sure that you set up your fiscal year correctly before setting up a budget. This way, all the information will show, and you can seamlessly review your last years data.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Company menu and choose My Company.
  2. Click the pencil icon and then Report Information.
  3. Make sure the first month of your fiscal year is correct.

Then, you can now review last fiscal year's financial reports.

  1. Go to the Reports menu and hover over Company & Financial.
  2. Choose Profit & Loss Detail or Balance Sheet Detail depending on what you want to forecast or budget for.
  3. From the Dates dropdown, select Last Fiscal Year.
  4. Hit Refresh.

Once done, you can now set up a budget. For complete details, you can refer to this article: Create a budget or forecast in QuickBooks Desktop.

Also, ensure that your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) is up-to-date so you always have the latest features and fixes. For more insights, you may check this article: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Additionally, I'm adding these articles that will help you manage your reports in QuickBooks:
