Question

QBO incorrectly imports split payment transactions from Square - cash will be placed in a separate sales receipt to card but added to the bank deposit. Can this be fixed?

The cash portion of these split payments will be in a separate sales receipt from other cash sales, with a description of "CASH". Ideally these would be included in the sales receipt with other cash sales.

Welcome to the Community, crosstherubiconi.

If data is sent to QuickBooks from a platform like Square, the data's entered into your books based on the transactions you're working with. If you're looking to change records that were imported a certain way, I'd initially recommend confirming with an accounting professional whether you should or shouldn't be doing so. After confirming the best course of action, they can also confirm how you should be entering the particular transactions.

If you're in need of an accounting professional, there's an awesome tool on our website called Find a ProAdvisor. All ProAdvisors listed there are QuickBooks-certified and able to provide helpful insights for driving your business's success.

Here's how it works:

  1. Go to our Find a ProAdvisor page.
  2. Use the City or ZIP search field to specify a location.
  3. Select Find a ProAdvisor.
  4. Browse through your results and find one that works best for the business. You can click on each ProAdvisor's profile to learn more information about them.

Once you've found an accountant, they can be contacted through their Send a message form:

  1. Use the available text box to introduce yourself. Be sure to include details about which services you're looking for.
  2. Enter your appropriate info in the Your nameYour email, and Your phone number (optional) fields.
  3. Hit Send message.

You'll also be able to find many detailed resources about using QuickBooks in our help article archives.

If there's any additional questions, I'm just a post away. Have an awesome Thursday!

Thanks ZackE, it’s definitely an import error by the Connect to Square app in QBO. In Square you can see the transaction is appropriately split between card and cash, contributing to the totals for that day. The error in QBO is assigning the cash part of the payment to the electronic deposit erroneously, so you have to go in manually and remove it from that bank deposit to allow a match to occur with the transaction feed from my checking account.

Is there anyway to escalate this to the QBO/app team to get it fixed?

Hello there, crosstherubiconi. I'm here to help you track the mapping of your square transactions.

Incorrect account mapping may cause discrepancies in fee display between card and cash. Please verify and correct the mapping setup.

Here's how:

  1. Select Apps on the left navigation bar.
  2. Find Sync with Square.
  3. Select Settings.

For more details, check this link: Sync with Square - Default Accounts and Names.

If everything is fine, I suggest contacting our Customer Support Team. This way, they can pull up your account securely and check the cause of the problem.

  1. Go to the (?) Help icon.
  2. Select Talk to a Human.
  3. Enter a short description of your concern.
  4. Click on I still need a human.
