Question

Quickbooks online, "customers" are displayed with the name of the human as the primary display; I want company name as primary display.

I'll walk you through the steps on how you can change your customer's primary display in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @djwalters-gmail-.

 

We can simply go to the customer's information window and change the display name from there. Here's how:

 

  1. Go to Sales and select Customers.
  2. Click the name of the customer, then select Edit.
  3. Under the Display name as field, enter the name of the company.
  4. Select Save.

 

In addition, you can run the Transaction List by Customer report in QBO. This way, you can check your transactions (income and expenses), grouped by customers in QuickBooks. Just go to Reports and search for Transaction List by Customer report.

Thank you, that *does* work!

 

Question:  When we go live (converting from QB app to QB online), we want that selection for *all* customers.

 

Is there a way to specify "display by customer company" as the default or "global" preference?

Hello @CindyPelletier,

 

You can remove the checkmark on your customer's profile so the name can be shown when searching it. Let me show you.

  1. Go to Sales.
  2. Select Customers.
  3. Find and open any of your customer's profile.
  4. Click Edit,
  5. Under Display name as, remove the checkmark.
  6. Click Save,
