Question

Quickbooks online doesn't have the invoice format I need. Can I create an invoice manually, then upload and log it in quickbooks?

Specifically, I invoice for hours per month, with a start and stop date. So for example, the invoice needs to say "Professional Services provided from June 01, 2024 to June 30, 2024." It looks silly to write that in the description for each service.

Yes, you can upload a manually created invoice into QuickBooks Online (QBO), Rick. I'm glad to share the steps to help you get this done.

If you'll create an invoice via Excel spreadsheet, you have to make sure that the needed columns are included on the file. Such as the following:

  • Invoice number
  • Customer
  • Invoice date
  • Due date
  • Item amount

When done, refer to the detailed steps in this article to import it in QBO: Import multiple invoices at once in QuickBooks Online.

If you're manually creating an invoice via another application, you can use a third-party importer tool to upload it to your QBO account. To look for one, you can visit or QuickBooks App Store page.

Then, to further help you modify the invoice template, feel free to read this article: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Just in case you have other concerns managing your invoice, please don't hesitate to leave a reply below. I'm always here ready to lend a hand. Have a good one.
