re: Transaction Journal Report

Is there a way to modify this report and make the modified version the default?

I would like to be able to -easily- print a one page report of individual transactions as proof of posting.  Easiest would be able to do so from within the transaction.  I would like to remove several columns from the report.

Appreciate the update, @pumc1889. I'll share details about your report.

As of the moment, there isn't an integrated way to memorize a transaction journal report of a certain transaction. You're on the right track, it's best to manually customize the transaction report and print it right after recording the transaction.

While the option is not yet available, I suggest letting our product developers know about this request by sending feedback. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to Help.
  2. Select Send Feedback Online.
  3. Click Product Suggestion.
  4. Under Product Area, choose Reports.
  5. Enter a few words describing how you want to have an option to generate and memorize the transaction journal report.
  6. Select Send Feedback.
  7. Click Close Window.

I'm adding a couple of articles below that'll allow you to dive in deeply and understand your report:

It's great to see you here in the Community, @pumc1889. I'd be delighted to assist you in customizing the Transaction Journal report in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Removing the columns can be done using the Customize tool. Let me show you the steps below:

  1. Open the Transaction Journal report and click on the Customize Report button.
  2. Go to the Display tab and locate the Columns section.
  3. Uncheck the columns you don't want to include in the report.
  4. Select OK.

This is what it looks like:

Once done, you can print it out or email it to your vendor or customer.

In addition, I've added an article for your additional reference with managing reports in QBDT: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop. This also contains more information that can be handy in the future, such as combining scheduling reports.

I'll be around if you need anything else. Please don't hesitate to let me know in the comment section below. Take care and more power to your business!

Thanks Stephanie!  And apologies if my question was not clear.

I know how to customize this report.  I do it often.  Alas, when I do it is a use once change.

The emphasis of my question is the second part "and make the modified version the default".  I wish to customize this report and make the changes permanent, while still callable from -within a transaction- (Reports menu/Transaction Journal button), or -from a transaction register- (open register/highlight transaction/Reports menu/select Transaction Journal).

I have tried making my customizations to the report and then memorize it.  However this is more trouble than it is worth, as it is not accessible in either manner I mentioned above.  To use a memorized report I need to call it up, then customize it to the specific transaction number I wish to report.
