Report font size shrinks

After doing the latest QB update, whenever you change the date or any filters in a report the font size shrinks. It carries through to when you print too, not just a visual error.

Let’s work together to ensure your report's fonts look how you need them to, Jeremy.

In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), we can adjust the report font size by going to the Customize Report button. I can guide you on how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu, then choose a specific report.
  2. Click on Customize Report, then select Fonts & Numbers.
  3. Tap the Change Font button, then adjust the font size from there.
  4. Hit OK.

You also have the option to change the fonts in the Edit menu. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Edit menu and select Preferences.
  2. Click Reports & Graphs, then select the Company Preferences tab.
  3. Tap the Format button.
  4. Select Fonts & Numbers.
  5. Change the fonts as desired for each category.
  6. Hit OK.

When I first open a report, it looks normal. It's only after I change parameters that the font shrinks.

What's the default font size. When I go into fonts and keep the size that comes up (8), things get even smaller.

Let me provide you with some additional steps to increase the font size in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), Jeremy.

The default font size for QuickBooks reports is set to 8 points, which may make the reports a bit challenging to read.

Since you still find it difficult to read, we can perform some troubleshooting steps to fix this. First, we can check the display settings in your QuickBooks Desktop.

To do this, follow the steps provided below:

  1. From the Start menu, open the Windows
  2. Enter "QuickBooks" into the search tab. Then right-click the QuickBooks icon and pick Open file location.
  3. In the folder, right-click the QuickBooks.exe file and choose Properties.
  4. Proceed to the Compatibility tab.
  5. Choose the Disable display scaling on the high DPI settings checkbox. You can also select Change high DPI settings and then Override high DPI scaling behavior.
  6. Pick Apply and then OK.

If the display issue continues, you can continue troubleshooting starting Step 2 in this article: Fix screen issues in QuickBooks Desktop.

I've added this article about handling reports in QuickBooks Desktop: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

Tried all your suggestions. Setting in preferences does NOT solve the problem overall. It works on a couple reports but does NOT change globally. I am having to reset the font on EVERY memorized report and several new reports even though the preferences are already set. I am fielding calls from customers who have no idea how to set preferences. So now for each report I bring up I have 7-8 extra steps. NOT happy with Intuit breaking things on a forced update. PLEASE accept that Intuit broke this function in the recent update and request a FIX. Giving us work arounds that do NOT work is not really helpful.

Thanks for getting involved with this thread, BAHumphrey and cin2. I appreciate your detailed information.

I've reviewed our ongoing investigations and can confirm there's a recently created investigation about report fonts becoming too small and the zoom feature not functioning after updating to Release 9 (R9).

Currently, Intuit's Product Investigations team is researching the situation and gathering information. For the time being, there's a workaround mentioned in our investigation which I'd recommend trying if possible.

Here's how:

  1. If you have an older version of QuickBooks available, like QuickBooks 2023, open it and run a report.
  2. Modify your report's font to a larger size, like 14.
  3. Save the changes, and your report will adjust.
  4. Go back to QuickBooks 2024 and run the same report.
  5. Go to Customize and adjust its font to your preferred size. The report's font size will now adjust.

Since you're impacted by this, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care team and referencing the investigation's case number (INV-112529). They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research with you, and add the account to our list of affected users if necessary. This ensures you'll receive email notifications about any updates relating to our investigation.

They can be reached while using QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. In your top menu bar, go to Help, then QuickBooks Desktop Help.

  2. Click Contact Us.

  3. Enter a brief description of the issue in our Ask a question (or tell us what's wrong) field.

  4. Hit Continue.

  5. Select We’ll contact you for a callback or Message Us to start an instant messaging session.

Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.

Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Enjoy the rest of your Thursday!
