Yes, Parkway,

I am switching from Online to Desktop and I have been following the procedure provided by QB, but it isn't showing up. This whole process has been a stretching experience altogether. I should be well versed in what not to do for anyone in the future. Ha! Thanks for your help clarifying.

Hey there, @paffeldt. Thanks for providing an update.

We're aware that the task isn't being shown on the Dashboard, and our Engineering Team is hard at work to resolve the issue. The good news is that you can still export the file without using the task. Follow these quick steps:

  1. In QuickBooks Online, go to the Settings ⚙ icon and select Export Data.
  2. Enter your reason for exporting and select Continue.
  3. In the Moving to QuickBooks Desktop section, select Learn more.
  4. In the Download company data section, select Learn more.
  5. Select Get started.
  6. On the Exporting from QuickBooks Online page, select Continue to download.
  7. In QuickBooks Desktop, make sure you're on the No Company Open screen. If you have a company open, go to File and select Close company.
  8. Back in QuickBooks Online, select Download.
  9. In the Save your company file window, select a location to save the file. Pick a place other than your Windows Desktop.
  10. When the download finishes, select Convert Now.
  11. In the Create a new QuickBooks file window, give the file a name and select a location to save it in. Pick a place on your local computer and not a network or external drive.
  12. After the export is done, select Finished.

That's it! Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to be of assistance. Have a great weekend!

It should pop up right on your dashboard when you log into that company file.

Good day, @paffeldt.

We can export yourdata and how to it in your end. Before we start, there are few reminders when exporting your data in QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

  • QuickBooks Online (QBO) is compatible with 32-bit version of Interner Explorer.
  • You must be logged in as an Admin user on both QuickBooks Online and Desktop.
  • Install Active X in Internet Explorer when Exporting QuickBooks Online data.

Here's how to Export data to QBO:

  1. Right-click the Internet Explorer icon and select Run as administrator.
  2. Select the Tools ⚙ icon, then Internet Options.
  3. Select Security, then Trusted sites.
  4. Select Sites.
  5. In the Add this website to the zone field, enter: *.intuit.com.
  6. Make sure Require server verification (https: ) for all sites in this zone is unchecked.
  7. Close the Trusted Sites window.
  8. Make sure Enable Protected Mode is unchecked.
  9. Select Apply, then Okay. Leave Internet Explorer open.

As always, you can refer to this detailed article for further guidance on how to export your data file: Export your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

Once done, run a Balance Sheet and a Profit and Loss report to ensure that the numbers match. Make sure to set them on an Accrual basis and for All Dates in both programs.

I think they are actually trying to grab a copy of the file to pull INTO desktop from Online

Thank you everyone, we were able to get everything downloaded. There was nothing that popped up as we opened up QB, but with the help of a very smart QB helper, we got it completed.

Where did you find the task or to do item once exported and downloaded?

You'll find the to do lists on your dashboard, natripps.

Once imported in QuickBooks, it will be ready and added in your dashboard. Just click Dashboard on the left pane.

The dashboard displays the company's overview, to-do-lists, and graphs of business update.

Check this article to learn more: An introduction to the home dashboard.

If you can't see your data in the Dashboard, go back to the email to complete your setup. The migration will automatically apply.

You can run reports to compare data in QB Online and QB Desktop.

If you got additional concerns, don't hesitate to leave a reply.

there is no answer, here, we have the same problem and there is no task, there is no link to download. support has a 2 hour hold , and the gear icon from Internet Explore ( unsupported browser) does not allow you to use it anymore.  you would think the supported browsers would allow you to export back to QBDT , unless the real motive is to not let you convert back.

Thank you everyone, for your comments and helps. We are way past this point and are actually working smoothly in QB Desktop now.  Thanks Again!!!
