On the Sales by Item Summary, wehre is the COGS column and Avg COGS column being pulled from.
Drilling down leads to Sales by Item Detail which contains the invoice, but does not show where the cost is being pulled from.

Welcome to the Community. I'll share insight on how you can view the COGS for invoices and sales receipts in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @Clovelace.

From the Sales by Item Detail window, you can drill down further on any invoice or sales receipt from that report.

On the Invoice or Sales Receipt page, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Reports tab.
  2. Click Transaction Journal.
  3. Under the Account column, look for Cost of Goods Sold.
  4. The amount for COGS is under the Debit column.

More on inventory and COGS in this article: Understand inventory assets and cost of goods sold tracking.

Check out this article for additional information about reports available in QBDT: Understand reports. It has a detailed explanation of how QBDT generates reports.

Let me know in the comments below if you have other questions about COGS in QBDT. I'll be sure to get back to you. Have a pleasant day!
