Question

Snapping a Receipt creates duplicate transactions

I have realised that when I use the "snap a receipt" function this ends up giving me two transactions once my bank gives QB a list of transactions. Is there no way to "match" the transactions into one or am I best to exclude the bank transaction?

If there's no way to match a snapped receipt to a transaction this feels like a huge oversight by QB...

Hi there, Jim. I'd like to provide additional information about matching duplicate transactions in QuickBooks Self-employed (QBSE).

Matching duplicate transactions is only available in QuickBooks Online (QBO). You'll only have the ability to categorize transactions in QBSE.

If your bank is connected to your account and you're using the Snap receipt feature, it will show duplicate transactions. You can exclude the second transaction from your bank feeds in your QBSE account.

Here's how:

  1. In your QBSE account, go to Transactions.
  2. Locate the duplicate transactions.
  3. On the transaction you want to delete, click the dropdown arrow.
  4. Tick the Exclude this transaction, then hit Save.

I've included a screenshot for your visual reference.

However, you can consider not using the Snap receipt feature in QBO to avoid duplicate transactions.

Additionally, you can manually import bank transactions in QBSE if you don't want to connect your bank.

If you have further concerns about duplicate transactions or any QuickBooks-related concerns. We're here to help you at any time.
