Strange Bug When Using the Reclassification Tool in QuickBooks Online!
Has anyone else experienced this bizarre issue? While batch modifying locations (not classes) in QuickBooks Online using the Reclassification Tool, the customer or vendor name on an invoice or bill randomly changes to another customer or vendor’s name!
This has now happened to me twice in the past few days—once with a customer invoice and once with a vendor bill. At first, I thought I must have made a mistake, but after the second instance, I know for sure this is happening solely when I modify the location field.
Here’s how you can reproduce it yourself:
- Open the Reclassification Tool in QuickBooks Online.
- Choose any bill or invoice that currently does not have a location assigned.
- Reassign the location to any value (e.g., Location X).
- Watch as the open bill or invoice moves from the existing customer or vendor to a completely random customer or vendor!
This is beyond frustrating! I spent over 1.5 hours on a call with Intuit support, sharing my screen and going through extensive troubleshooting. We updated Windows, cleared the cache, used incognito mode, and reproduced the issue multiple times with existing and newly created invoices and locations. The result was consistent: this is a bug.
Intuit has confirmed the issue and opened an investigation (reference number INV116490). They’ve promised updates, but I was just told that there won’t be any news until January 6 of next year!
I hope they provide a resolution soon—and ideally, some compensation for the time I’ve spent troubleshooting their software. This bug isn’t just a minor inconvenience; it’s potentially creating serious errors in my financial records.
Anyone else encountering this issue? Let’s hope Intuit prioritizes fixing it quickly!
