Question

Switched from Desktop to Online. We want to import our invoice template from 'desktop' and use on our 'online'. I can't seem to figure this out. How can I do that?

No you can't convert any of template form. You have to create them from scratch on QBO.

Welcome to the Community space, @BRIAN11. I'll be glad to share information about importing invoice templates from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

The feature to import an invoice template from QBDT and use it in your QBO account is currently unavailable. In QuickBooks Online, you can import the following information:

  • Bank Data
  • Customers
  • Vendors
  • Chart of Accounts
  • Products and Services
  • Invoices

For more information about importing data to QuickBooks Online, see this article: Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online.

For the time being, you'll need to create an invoice template manually within your QuickBooks Online account. To do so, follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Click on the Gear icon located at the top right-hand corner of the screen.
  3. Select Custom Form Styles.
  4. Click on the New Style button and choose Invoice.
  5. Customize your template by adding your company logo, changing the font and color scheme, and adding any relevant fields (e.g. payment terms, due date)
  6. Click the Preview PDF, then Done.

For detailed instructions about creating invoice templates together with other sales forms, open this link: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

While the option to import invoice templates is unavailable, I'd suggest sending feedback to our product development team. We also make changes and adjustments based on user feedback.

Here's how:

  1. Select the Gear icon⚙, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then choose Next to submit feedback.

I've also included some articles that will assist you in creating invoices and understanding how data appears in your QBO account after switching from QBDT:
