Transaction Detail Report - Net Amount Column

Where can I find the "Net Amount" column that totals the net effect of debits and credits in the transaction detail report under one column?

A net amount column is similar to any standard Trial Balance - General Ledger Report.

I was able to add the Debit and Credit columns, but I couldn't find the "Net Amount" column in the available options for column selection or in the report filters. There is an "Amount" column, but that column shows the natural sign of the amount (whether it increases or decreases the account), rather than showing the trial balance net amount from the accounting effects of the debits and credits.

I appreciate you for trying to find the Net Amount column in your report, @alshey. Please know that the option to add this is currently unavailable in QBO. However, I have a work-around for you.

The Net Income will only show as a row located at the bottom of the report and we can't add this as a column. As a work around, you can export your report to Excel and edit it based on your preferences.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Search for report you want to export in the Type your report name here field.
  3. In the More Actions dropdown menu, click Export to Excel.
  4. Save the file somewhere you can easily find, like your downloads folder or your desktop.

Also, the amount in your report will appear as positive or negative depending on the nature of the account and the transaction's impact on that account, reflecting accurate and standardized accounting practices.

Additionally, you may want to memorize your report in QuickBooks Online to save its current customization for future use.

Furthermore, if you want to enhance your financial management and keep your records precise and up to date, I highly recommend QuickBooks Live Bookkeeping. This can help you eliminate the stress of managing your finances by yourself. They'll assist in categorizing transactions, reconciling accounts, and producing accurate financial reports, freeing up your time to focus on growing your business.
