trouble with classes

Hi one of my clients is an orthodox church.  They were originally on Quickbooks Enterprise desktop with another firm.  Upon coming to me they wanted to go to QuickBooks online so I migrated them as that is my preferred version anyway.  We have them on the Plus plan which allows classes, but their classes don't appear to have migrated correctly.  It looks like only one side of the transaction is now classed (either the debit or credit side depending on which is the normal type of balance for a particular account) the other side is getting automatically dumped into "unclassified" rendering the clients balance sheet by class completely useless.  When I migrated them over, there were zero unclassified transactions in the enterprise file Now one side of EVERY transaction that was in that enterprise file shows as unclassified as well as all new transactions entered having one unclassified side HELP!!!!! why is this happening?

You may have 2 options:

1. Purchase a 3rd party service to convert your data with class.

2. Start your data in QBO from scratch and use the trial version of QB Desktop to access your historical data for good.

I'd be happy to assist you here in the Community, @drciotola.

One possible reason is that your transactions were classified by class one to entire transactions and not one to each row in transactions. That's why QuickBooks categorized the other side of your transactions by class and the other side as unclassified.

With this, we can manually categorize your transactions by class, or you can use a third-party service to convert your data with class, as suggested by 4Gal above.

Additionally, you can check out these helpful articles about migrating your data:

If you need to run a report by class, please refer to this article for guidance: Run reports by class in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have further queries about your transactions by class or QuickBooks. Keep safe.

Thank you @RogelioL

I would like to take you up on your offer of showing me how to do it manually.  Thats because although I am going to check into those 3rd party vendors, I don't know that we have access to the QB desktop file anymore from the [previous accounting firm.  I believe access to that has expired.  So I would really appreciate your help.
