Question

Turbotax is not recognizing me as a Quickbooks customer and charging me to file. How to I obtain my credit?

I pay for QuickBooks + TurboTax Live. I am supposed to be able to e-file free. TurboTax is charging me. TurboTax said I needed a service code from QuickBooks to obtain my credit. I have had the QuickBooks + Turbotax package for many years. This is the third time in 7 years I had to get a service code. This is very frustrating. What can Quickbooks do to prevent this in the future.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community, dlombardi58. I'll guide you to where you can get the service code to avoid the filing fee for filing your state or federal taxes in TurboTax Live Self-Employed.

Ideally, the service code is a unique code that applies a discount to the TurboTax Online fee. Only TurboTax specialists can provide these codes for specific, predetermined reasons, and they aren't considered coupons.

Please know that this code can be used only once and is valid for specified tax years, as TurboTax Online tax returns can't accept more than one service code. That said, I suggest contacting the TurboTax Customer Care Team. Here's how:

  1. Sign into your TurboTax account and type Contact us in the Search bar.
  2. Choose the Contact Us button from the results
  3. Click the pencil icon to enter your question and select Let's talk.
  4. Tap the Get a call and submit your request.

Make sure to call them within business hours to ensure they can attend to your needs on time. Once you have it, follow these steps on where you can enter it:

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax account.
  2. Open or continue your return if you haven't already done so. Please ensure you already sent your QuickBooks Self-Employed data to file them accordingly.
  3. Once inside your return, click File from the menu.
  4. The following screen has a list of all your fees. Find and choose I have a service code.
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions to enter your service code, then Continue
