I’d be glad to provide some details to you on how closing the books works in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Apdolphins.

QBO's close books feature allows finalization of financial statements for a specific period and safeguards them with a password to prevent changes. You can modify the closing date monthly by following the same process as you would for year-end closing. To isolate the issue, ensure that you are logged in to the program as a primary or company admin while closing the books.

I also suggest performing some troubleshooting to determine if this is a browser-related problem. First, log int your account using an incognito window and close you books from there. This doesn't save site data and browsing history. Here are the corresponding keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If it fixes the issue, go back to the regular browser and clear the cache. If the same thing happens, have your customer use other supported browsers and ensure they're up to date.

Finally, I'm adding this article to help see what makes up your retained earnings one your books are closed: View Retained Earnings account details.

You are welcome to reach out here whenever you have questions regarding closing your books in QBO. I'm here to help you. Wishing you a great day!
