I have months of credit card reconciliations to undo because of an old business becoming a new business. All conversations/solutions related to undoing reconciliations are outdated.

Hi there, Nanou. I'm here to provide the updated steps for undoing reconciliation.

There are two ways to unreconciled months of your credit card reconciliations in QuickBooks Online. The first involves doing one transaction at a time, and the other concerns inviting an accountant to undo the entire period (they have a special tool in QuickBooks Online Accountant to achieve this).

If you prefer to undo the reconciliation by yourself, I recommend following these steps:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and then select Chart of accounts.
  2. Find the credit card account that has the reconciled transaction. Then, click View register.
  3. Find the reconciled transaction. There's an “R” in the checkmark ✔ column.
  4. In the checkmark ✔ column, click the box with the “R” until the box is blank. It removes the transaction from the reconciliation.
  5. Select Save.
  6. Repeat the steps to undo the other entries.

Further details are shared in this article: Undo or remove transactions from reconciliations in QuickBooks Online.

If you want to have your accountant undo all the reconciled transactions, let's invite them to your books:

  1. From the Gear icon, select Manage Users.
  2. Go to the Accounting firms tab and click the Invite button.
  3. Enter the accountant's information.
  4. Click Save.

Once the accountant accepts the invite, they can start undoing the entire reconciliation. If you don't have one, you can use our Find-an-Accountant tool to look for an expert near you. Then, invite them.

Finally, I've added these resources to help you redo your reconciliation in the future and monitor the result after the process:
