Question

Unmatching numbers

On our cash flow statement by division, the cash at the end of period (12/31/2023) doesn't match the cash at the beginning of period (1/1/2024) as it should. We don't have this problem for end-of-year 2022 to beginning-of-year 2023, so what's happening differently now?

Hello there, projectcarsf. I've got some troubleshooting steps to fix the discrepancies between your ending period and the starting period cash flow statement in Quickbooks Online (QBO).

To start, I suggest reviewing your transactions or checking for any unusual or incorrect entries that could be affecting your balance. A transaction or balance from the end of the year could impact your beginning-of-year balance. Simply click the amounts to show the details of the transaction to display the full details of the transaction.

If everything's accurate, I suggest performing the steps through a private/incognito window. The private window will not save any history, making it a good place to identify browser problems. To save you time, use either of these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

If the amounts are correct using a private browser, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. Clearing the cache or cookies is the best way to get a clean slate for your browser. Otherwise, using other supported browsers can be a good alternative too.

Additionally, you can modify your reports in QuickBooks to show the correct data for each company. Here are articles you can use to make changes to the filters and other information:

Feel free to get back to me if you need further assistance with managing your cash flow statement in QBO. I’ll be more than happy to work with you again. Have a good one!

Thanks for your suggestions. I tried them all, and looked through every account in the chart of accounts. Everything is as it should be with no transactions that would through off the balances, and the 2023 year end cash by division still do not match the 2024 year beginning cash balance by division.

Thanks for getting back to us, @projectcarsf. Let me point you in the right direction to ensure your cash flow statement at the end period matches the beginning period in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Since the issue persists, I recommend reaching out to our customer support team so they can pull up your account securely through screen-sharing and determine the root cause of the problem.
