Question

We got quickbooks in august. It has only linked with our statements since June. Is there a way for it to automatically link our account statements from January- June?

I would like to welcome you to our community page, foxyhair.

If QuickBooks is linked to your statements since June, it may not retrieve account statements from January to June automatically. QuickBooks typically retrieves transactions from the connection date onwards. However, you can manually enter the transactions to ensure complete records. Here's what you can do:

Make sure you have the transactions from your bank. You'll need them to be at least one day before the date of your oldest transaction. You can get the transactions by signing in to your bank's website or contacting your bank directly. Once you have them, save the file somewhere easy to find, like your computer's desktop.

Open and check the file you received from your bank. Make sure it's in the right format before you upload it to QuickBooks. Remember, there's a maximum file size of 350 KB. If the file is too large, you can try narrowing down the date range and download transactions in smaller batches.

To avoid duplicates, know the date of the oldest transaction in the account. This ensures you don't enter transactions that are already recorded:

  1. Go to Settings and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the bank or credit card account where you want to upload the transactions.
  3. Select View Register.
  4. Look for the oldest transaction and make a note of its date. Typically, the oldest transaction is the opening balance.

Almost there! I'll guide you through the process of manually uploading the transactions. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Go to Transactions, then Bank transactions.
  2. Select the blue tile for the account where you want to upload the transactions.
  3. Click on the Link account dropdown and choose Upload from file.
  4. Choose either Drag and drop or select files, and then select the file you downloaded from your bank. Click Continue.
  5. In the QuickBooks account dropdown, select the account where you want to upload the transactions. Click Continue.
  6. Follow the onscreen instructions to match the columns in the file with the correct fields in QuickBooks. Click Continue.
  7. Select the transactions you want to import, and then click Continue.
  8. Confirm by selecting Yes.
  9. Once you've reviewed and accepted the transactions, click Done.

If you encounter any error message, don't worry. Here's an article to help you fix it while uploading your transactions.
