Question

When creating a new invoice why does the due date not match terms? Example: Invoice date 9/30/24, terms Net 10, but the due date still says 9/30/24

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Karen. Rest assured that I'm here to explain why the due date doesn't match the Net invoice in QuickBooks Online.

As you've mentioned, the invoice date is set to 9/30/24 and the terms are net 10. In that case, the due date should be 10/10/24 (10 days after the invoice date). However, the due date is showing as 9/30/24 on your end.

Here are some reasons:

  • The due date was manually set or saved incorrectly during invoice creation.
  • There's a bug within the invoicing that is not calculating due dates properly.

To resolve this, we can enter a new term by navigating to the Accounts and Settings under the Gear icon to let QuickBooks Online calculate due dates based on payment terms automatically. Upon creating a new one, give it another name so you can identify the term when applying it to the invoice.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Sales tab under the Accounts and Settings.
  2. Tap the Pencil icon from the Sales form content.
  3. Enter the details from the Preferred Invoice Terms dropdown.
  4. Give it a unique name.
  5. Lastly, press the Save and Done.

After following the process above, create an invoice and enter the new term created. Taking these steps will help you streamline your invoicing process and ensure timely payments moving forward.

If the issue persists, you can log in your account in a private browser by following the shortcut keys below:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift +

I also suggest clearing your browser's cache to help resolve or reduce any browser-related issues that can impact the performance of QuickBooks Online.

Additionally, if your customer plans to pay you in the future, here's how to record that payment and link it to the invoice to balance your accounts: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.
