Question

Where did the tag page go? I used to be able to click on banking, then tags tab to see my income and expenses by tag. Where is this page in the new (improved?) menu???

I found it helpful to look at the summary page that also allowed me to look at income and expenses that weren't tagged. I can't find this page anywhere in the new menu?

Let me guide you on how to access the Tag age in QuickBooks Online (QBO), kjcearns-askevin.

To get insights from tags, we'll need to go to the Account and Settings page and click the Tags under the Lists section. Here's how:

Then, you can run reports for tag groups to see how tagged transactions are performing. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon on the top menu.
  2. Choose Tags (Take me there).
  3. Find a group on the list.
  4. Under the Action column, press Run report.

Since groups have both money-in and money-out transactions, you'll see how everything in the group affects your bottom line. To learn more about how to use tags and group tags to get deeper insights into your sales and expenses, check out this article: Tag transactions in QuickBooks Online.

We can also run the Transaction List by Tag Group report to view the tag details of your transactions. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Report menu.
  2. In the search box, enter Transaction List by Tag Group.
  3. Click the Customize button to modify it.
  4. Se the reporting date correctly.
  5. Click Run report to reflect the changes.

Is there a reason why they removed the Tags quicklink from the bookmarks menu, though? We use the Tags system extensively, and it's kind of mean that they randomly removed it as a menu option.

Hello there, @FeltzTire. I understand that accessing tags directly in the bookmarks menu will save you more time.

Currently, the tags can be accessible in the Gear icon. For now, you can follow the steps provided by my colleague.

Meanwhile, you can make necessary changes in your bookmarks menu to add a feature you use most. Check out this article to learn what you can add and hide: Understand the navigation menu in QuickBooks Online

I'll be glad to assist you again if you need further assistance or clarification regarding the tags feature. Just enter your response by clicking the reply button below.

OMGoodness.  Now they have gone and completely removed the tags page.  Speaking with a rep they said the feature was removed on May 16th 2025.   I still see that I can tag transactions, but full functionality of tags is completely gone.  Such a pain to remove something that people were using.  We are now supposed to switch over to custom fields.  I guess I'll look into that when I have a moment.  I wish I could get rid of this software, but I don't think I can.

They removed the direct link to the tag overview/reports page from the menu, but the URL is still accessible if the feature is active on your account yet (which I'm assuming it is, since you're still able to tag transactions).

All you have to do is type it in manually or make a bookmark for it:

And on a side note, the rep you spoke to was only partially right. Originally, they did intend to start sunsetting the tags feature and limit their functionality for current customers on May 16th (and remove the feature entirely for new customers). Enough people must have made a ruckus about it though, because at the last second they decided to keep the tags feature active as is for QBO accounts that were already using tags prior to the original intended sunset date, basically 'grandfathering' the feature in for those accounts...

Which is a fantastic outcome (considering the alternative), because I was not looking forward to dealing with the fallout and grief their original game plan would have caused for us..

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.  Didn't know that was available.  Hopefully, they keep the full functionality for those of us who use tags all the time.  Like you said, the alternative is painful.
