Let's perform some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue, JBS6.

There are times that your browser is full of frequently accessed page resources that may cause some unusual responses. To isolate, you can log into your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account in a private window (incognito). Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Firefox).
  • Control + Option + P (Safari).

Once signed in, check if you can already add a new client. If so, return to your default browser and clear the cache to speed up the loading process. Every so often the cache becomes overwhelmed with older data which can potentially cause viewing and performance issues. Clearing it will refresh the system, and you'll be able to work with a clean slate. However, if the issue persists, try using other supported browsers.

Furthermore, learn how to enter invoices so your clients will know how much they'll have to pay. Go through this article for more information: Create Invoices in QuickBooks Online.

I actually contacted QB via online chat and learned that not a client name cannot include a colon, only letters and numbers. That was my issue and apparently it's a new thing.  They only tell you "Something's not quite right. Invalid name format".  They were not specific as to what was invalid so, unfortunately, I was hung up for several hours trying to troubleshoot.

Glad to know that you're able to determine what causes the issue, d_spi.

You're right, When saving a client's name, special characters aren't allowed. Only letters and numbers are acceptable. Anyway, since you have already resolved your issue, I guess I have to close this ticket.
