Why are receipt scans not uploading information that is clearly readable?

I have noticed that more of the receipts I scan a photo of 'need action' even though the images are clear. Why is this?

We're thrilled to have you here in the Community, Kelly! I'm pleased to assist you with your concern about receipts in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE).

One reason QuickBooks doesn't enter readable data from the uploaded receipts is likely the presence of sensitive or personal information, like credit card numbers and government identifiers. To ensure your safety, we don't recommend importing receipts that include these details.

Another reason could be outdated or corrupted data. If this is the case, you can clear your app's data to eliminate issues and get everything back on track.

Here's how:

  1. Go to your device's Settings.
  2. Select Apps (varies by device).
  3. Choose the QuickBooks app from the list and click Storage.
  4. Tap Clear data.

Additionally, even if your receipt images are clear, they will stay in the Need Action status until you review, edit, add, or match them to existing transactions. For more detailed info, check out this article: Record or attach expense receipts in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Alternatively, you can streamline the process using your device’s camera app to snap pictures of your receipts and email them directly to QuickBooks. We’ll scan them and input the details, saving you time, especially if you have multiple receipts to upload.
