Question

Why can't I search the description anymore to find a product/service when creating an invoice with the new layout?

I used to be able to type a word in the product/service box on an invoice and the results would search both the name of the product/service and the description. Now, with the updated layout, only the product/service name is searchable. My p/s names are named by the part number. For example a 10lb ABC fire extinguisher is 120 and the description was 10lb abc fire extinguisher. If i searched abc, it would pop up but now i can only search 120 to find it.

Hello there, @atlasfyr1.

In QuickBooks Online's (QBO) new invoice layout, the description will only be visible after choosing a product or service from the dropdown. Thus, I encourage you to share your thoughts with our software engineers. They carefully examine customer feedback, especially when determining how to improve QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.
  3. Type in your suggestion and click Next.

This is the standard answer we always get. It would be nice to have a true solution or maybe a bench test of functionality before you roll out an update.

I am having this same issue again after the latest update!

This is the issue my team is having too!  Also, my main team member that enters product service items - cannot longer use the search to find current product service items.  This is a HUGE inconvenience.  What is the fix - ASAP - so we can get back to work?

I understand the importance of item descriptions for your workflow, @BTPIWT. I would like to clarify the recent changes in QuickBooks Online (QBO) that impact how descriptions are displayed in the dropdown menu during invoicing.

Recently, QBO updated its interface, resulting in item descriptions only being visible after a specific product or service has been selected from the initial dropdown menu. This change was made to streamline the displayed information, ensuring it is relevant to your selections.

In the meantime, access your QuickBooks company file using a private browsing window to prevent potential interruptions caused by corrupted cache files. This method will not store cache files that may cause an error message in your default browser.

You can press the following keys to access this mode:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari 11 or newer: ⌘ + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Shift + Ctrl + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + N

If this resolves the issue, clear your regular browser's cache to refresh the website's preferences and ensure your browser is updated. Alternatively, using a different supported browser may also help.
