Question

Why can't we add items to invoices via Sku numbers? For those of us with barcode scanners it makes things easier. Others have been requesting this for 3 years.

We can add items to an invoice transaction when entering SKU numbers, 12345CP.

 

In QuickBooks Online, the SKU option is available in all online versions. You should be able to add your product or service items via SKU numbers to your sales forms. I've added a screenshot for visual reference.

However, if some users are unable to add items to the customer sales transaction, troubleshooting and refreshing your company data may help rule out the possibility of a browser issue. Refer to these keyboard shortcuts to open one:

 

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N.
  • Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N.

 

You can also try opening your account in a different browser. This could be an issue with the browser that you're using. Once it works from there, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache.

  1. I would expect something to start popping up as I type a sku in but nothing is happening.  Also I'd think there would be a way to type in a sku field.  Here's a screen shot from my sandbox as I type.

Since you're still experiencing issues with entering products using SKU, I suggest reaching out to our Support Team. They can access your account in real time and use specialized tools to investigate the root cause of the problem. Here's how to contact them:

 

1. In your QBO account, then go to Help (?).

2. Select either of these tabs:

  • Assistant tab and type Talk to a human.
  • Search tab and click on Contact us to connect with a support expert.

3. Choose how you want to reach us (phone or chat).

 

For Plus, Essentials, or Simple Start, support is available Monday to Friday from 6 AM to 6 PM PT and Saturday from 6 AM to 3 PM PT. For Advanced, support is available any time and any day.
