Question

Why does the app not prompt me to send the invoice once it's created? I have to go back to the client in QBO, find the invoice and send it. This is counter intuitive

It use to automatically take you back to the invoice you created and allow you to send it

I suspect that was too convenient and so it was, like so many other capabilities, omitted from the new and 'improved' invoices.

Yes, with every update it seems QuickBooks Online gets less and less intuitive and harder and harder to use.

When creating an invoice in your desktop or mobile app, you should have an option to Save and close, or Save and send upon creating an invoice. You can use the drop-down arrow if it says Save and close, and choose Save and send instead.

If you're working with recurring invoices and would like them to be sent automatically once they're created, you can activate your Automatically send emails.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Gear icon, then go to Recurring transactions.
  2. Find a transaction you want to modify and click its Edit option.
  3. Tick your Automatically send emails checkbox.
  4. Confirm an appropriate Interval and Start date are specified.
  5. Select Save template.

I've also included a couple detailed resources about working with invoices which may come in handy moving forward:
