Question

Why doesn't my account show "Categories" for products/services? Instead it shows "Is Sub-Product/Service". I believe this is older or something.

I imported my data from QuickBooks Desktop a year ago so maybe this has something to do with it.  How do I convert?

Hello, @12345CP.

I'll share some information about managing your products and services in QuickBooks Online.

This update in QBO interphase is still rolling out for customers. Please know that the page that has the Is sub-product/service option is an old interface. You're interphase will be later on change to Category

To enter your product and service item, here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then choose Product and services.
  2. Click + New, and select a type.
  3. Enter the details needed.
  4. Hit Save & Close once done.

Learn how to sort and manage your products and services effectively on QBO by visiting this article: Group products and services into different categories in QuickBooks Online.

I'm still all ears if you need further assistance with your sales and inventories. Just add your reply below, and I'll circle back to help you.

Thank you for your reply however that doesn't really help me. I'm in the process of developing an app that communicates with QuickBooks via the api and the sandbox account uses categories.  So I can't write my app to use the old method as it fails in the sandbox and I can't write it for the new categories method as it won't work with my account until categories can be enabled.  So what am I supposed to do?
