Question

Why is one of my 1099 vendors being put in the non reportable payments category but they are paid all by check and is well over the $600 minimum.

Hi there, zyaacs. Let's sort out why your vendor is in the nonreportable payments category.

Yes, to confirm, only those paid above the annual $600 cash threshold get a 1099. Any payments made to 1099 vendors through credit cards, debit cards, or third-party systems such as PayPal are not included in the 1099s calculations. For more information on excluded payments, see what payments are excluded from a 1099

On the other hand, let's manually check the transactions associated with the excluded vendor and the payment method used. If the payment method is incorrect, it will affect the 1099 calculations.

Moreover, after ensuring all vendor transactions and payment methods are accurate, let's check if the excluded vendors were included in the 1099 tracking.

  1. Hover to Expenses, and select Vendors
  2. Select the contractor you want to check, then choose the Edit icon.
  3. Mark the Track payments for 1099 checkbox, then select Save.

We can also run a report to see which vendors are set to track 1099s. Then, you can change their status:

  1. Hover to Reports, then enter Vendor Contact List in the search bar.
  2. Select Customize, then select Change columns.
  3. Select the Track 1099 checkbox.
  4. In the Filters section, click the Deleted dropdown and tick All.
  5. Click Run Report.
  6. Go to Sort, and under Sort by, choose Track 1099.
  7. If you see that the excluded vendor has a No under Track 1099, you can pick their name.
  8. Select Vendor Details, click the Edit icon, mark the Track payments for 1099 checkbox, then choose Save.
