I am a winery  controller and would like to know if 'Unit of Measure' will calculate liters and gallons per line item on an invoice base on quantity of Item sold. Such that at at end of a period I can have on a 'Sales by Item' Report: Qty, $sold, total liter and total gallons by Item/Sku.   This will simply calculating excise tax, since items are of different volumes.

Welcome to the Community, Ann.

It's fantastic to see you getting to grips with how QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) can optimize your business operations. Let me provide some clarity regarding how sales items are listed on an Invoice, particularly concerning your question about quantity and unit measurements.

Indeed, Quantity and Unit Measure are closely interconnected within the framework of a Sales Item. The unit measure you select has a direct impact on how the quantity of items sold in your Invoice is calculated. It's important to note, though, that you can only select one unit of measure per line item. This chosen unit will automatically be applied across all transactions entered into the system for that item.

Additionally, you can't use two different unit measures in your Sales Report. The unit measure recorded during transaction entry will be the one displayed in the Sales Report. If you need to see the converted unit of measure for a specific line item, you can double click the item. Once done, choose the drop-down menu below the Unit Measure (UM); this will reveal both the unit measure you've chosen and its corresponding conversion.

Moreover, here's an article that will guide you on how to modify unit of measure in your item in QBDT: Use single and multiple units of measure for items

Furthermore, you can also utilize this tool on how to setup and generate Invoice in QBDT: Create an invoice in QuickBooks Desktop

These features are crafted to enhance the efficiency of managing transactions in QBDT, ensuring that they accurately reflect your business. If you have any clarification about your transactions, feel free to Reply to this thread. We're here to offer assistance.
