Within the past month or so, the sidebar menu started collapsing/hiding itself. How can I turn off the auto-hide behavior and pin that menu in place like it used to be?

Apparently it's not a bug, it's a "feature". And it's not going to be fixed anytime soon. Another thread was started a month ago: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/other-questions/how-do-we-go-back-to-the-old-sidebar/00/1179236

Hello there, @chris-myers.

The options on the left navigation pane are default menus in QuickBooks Online (QBO). They are designed intentionally and have special functions for all features in the system. We can only hide and show them again by clicking on the Three-lined icon at the top of the screen.

However, we can customize the Business view sidebar to show the menus. I'll guide you on how.

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Click the Menu settings on the left-side corner.
  3. Select Customize this menu.
  4. Put a checkmark beside the features.
  5. Hit Save.

Additionally, I suggest sending feedback to let our developer know it's essential to your business.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under Profile, select Feedback.
  3. Enter your suggestions.
  4. Hit Next.

You can check this link to learn more about modifying a report and adding other details: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have other questions. I'll be right here to help you with your QuickBooks display concern. Have a good one.

I was furious about this new change. Its awful and distracting. However I JUST found something that made it a bit more bearable (maybe it will help others too)....
If you edit the menu and add your most frequently visited tabs as a "bookmark" (Mine were Banking, Reports, Reconcile and COA) Then when you click on one of those bookmarks (as opposed to clicking through the menu levels) then the menu stays open and doesn't collapse and do its annoying animation. Just thought I'd pass along to others who have been struggling like I have with this menu redesign.
