Writing off unbilled time

we are a law frim and just settled a case for a client

we have unbilled time on that file that we do not want to bill for, is there a way to write off the unbilled time or do i need to do a bill for the time and then make a credit for the time?

    The easiest way is to start an invoice and, then, go to the billable time and click under the 'hide' column.

    You aren't really 'writing off' the time - you just aren't billing for it, which is the same thing on the bottom line.

    If you wanted to, you could create the invoice and, then, enter a credit memo, using an item which points to an income account called Client Adjustments & Credits.

      The reason you don't have to "write off" the time, is that you already have Costs, such as Payroll. There really is not anything to Write Off. You are just opting no Billing for it (per circumstances), or forfeiting the right to Sell it. For instance, a Contingency case means time is not Billable, but you still have costs, as usual, for the labor = payroll costs.
