Question

Billable expenses not showing up in invoices

I'm using QBO Plus. I have some client expenses that I've marked as Billable. If I go to the Projects page and click on the particular project, I see the expense there. If I click on the expense, I see the journal entry that posts the expense to that client.

However, if I create an invoice for that client/project, my time will appear on the invoice, but the expense will not.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Hi KJIsaacson.

Projects are a great way to track what you spend on a job and what to charge your client. I'd be happy to help you get your projects set up.

QuickBooks Online Projects feature is a great way to help you save time and effort when tracking a jobs expenses and invoicing it out. If you're entering expenses in as Journal Entries it can cause issues when invoicing them out through projects. In order to use the projects tab correctly I recommend following this article to make sure everything is being entered in the proper way.

If you have any questions let us know and we'd be happy to help!
