Question

Can I add a return receipt to my books via the receipt snap function in QBO? I cannot find an option in the receipt snap function for this.

Hi Blake14,

Keeping track of your receipts has never been easier with QuickBooks Online and the new Receipt Scanning tool. Having the option of keeping digital copies of your receipts means you can finally ditch the shoebox and feel confident knowing that QBO has all the necessary information stored in the cloud. If you've received a refund/return receipt and you'd like to link it to the appropriate transaction, I'd be happy to explain the steps to do so.

The Receipt Scanning tool is used to generate expense transactions by extracting the information on a receipt. At this time, this tool is used to scan expense and bill receipts. That being said, you can still upload a copy of your refund receipt manually, which will appear as an attachment on your transaction in QuickBooks.

Attachments can be added to any of the following transactions:

  • Bills
  • Cheques
  • Credit Card
  • Credit Memo
  • Customers
  • Delayed Charge
  • Estimates
  • Expenses
  • Invoices
  • Receive Payments
  • Refund Receipt
  • Sales Receipt
  • Suppliers
  • Supplier Credit

To see a complete list of steps and more information, take a look at this article: Attachments in QuickBooks Online.

As explained in that article, you can easily upload an attachment to your transaction by following these steps:

  1. Open the desired transaction.
  2. From the bottom left, select Attachments.
  3. Browse and select the document you want to attach.
  4. Select Open, then Save and close.

I hope that helps get you on the right track. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to our tech support team

Have a wonderful day.
