Can I delete credit card info of a customer? Customer has requested we delete credit card info from quickbooks, but I can't see anywhere to delete, only edit.

Hello michi_13,

 

It sounds to me like you're using QuickBooks Payments, which is an awesome tool for easily accepting credit card payments from your customer through your sales transactions. Keeping your customer's profile information up-to-date is perfect for ensuring that your customer is using their preferred method of payment.

 

As you've probably noticed, deleting or removing the credit card from the customer profile isn't as simple as pulling it up to edit and then selecting a delete option. Instead, it takes a few steps. I can walk you through them.

 

The first step is to create an additional customer profile for the customer.

  1. Hover over Sales in the left menu and choose Customers.
  2. Click New customer.
  3. Fill in the customer name slightly different than the original. (Example: If the original is John Doe, try something like John S Doe or add punctuation at the end of the name).
  4. Fill in the other details as needed.
  5. Click Save.

The next step is to merge the two customer profiles. Follow the steps below to do this.

  1. Return to the Customers page.
  2. Select the original customer profile (the one with the credit card info on it).
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Change the TitleFirst name, Middle nameLast nameSuffix, and Display name so they're identical to the new customer profile you just created.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Click Yes on the Please Confirm: That name is already being used. Would you like to merge the two? message.

Just like that, the new customer profile will have overtaken the old. Don't worry, any transactions that were related to the customer profile with the credit card information will be merged and appear on the new profile. It's the details of the setup that are now going to be different. Go ahead and take a peek at the profile to make sure the credit card information is gone. If you'd like to change the name back to the way it appeared on the original profile, you can now do so.
