Can I make manual payment updates in quick books?

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, and thanks for your interest in using QuickBooks Online and Payroll! At QuickBooks, our goal is to give you the tools you need to manage your business's books, and I'd be happy to get you acquainted with the payroll options so you can make the best choise for your needs.

There are two payroll offerings you can consider with QuickBooks Online: QuickBooks Online Payroll, which is our built-in system, or Wagepoint, a third-party service that can connect with the program. Both options calculate your pay runs and the figures you need for remittances, but they each handle things just a bit differently.

For QuickBooks Online Payroll, you can choose to pay your employees by cheque or by direct deposit. Regardless of which you choose, when you run payroll, the system will record the amounts paid to your employees, even if you're choosing to pay them via an e-transfer instead of cheque, for instance. The remittances are also calculated in Online Payroll, and then you can use those numbers to make the remittances to the government outside of the program. The Wagepoint payroll offering gives you the opportunity for more automation, including being able to remit payroll taxes and payroll forms on your behalf. With the ability to connect with QuickBooks Online, your payroll numbers will still filter into the program, but the pay runs themselves are handled directly through Wagepoint. Check out the Wagepoint website to learn more about what that program has to offer: Wagepoint Canada
