Welcome to QuickBooks Community!  QuickBooks Online is a dynamic program with the features you need to accomplish your daily tasks seamlessly.  I'd be glad to assist!

With the Billable Expense feature, you can track and record billable expenses that can be applied to customer invoices.

Follow these steps to turn on Billable Expenses;

1. Go to Settings ⚙, then select Account and settings

2. Open the Expenses tab

3. From the Bills and expenses section, select Edit ✎

4. Turn on the following:

-Show Items table on expense and purchase forms

-Track expenses and items by customer

-Make expenses and items billable

5. Set up the following:

-Markup rate

-Billable expense tracking

6. Bill payment terms.

7. Hit Save.

Here's how to bill a customer for an expense;

1. Click on + New and select the transaction (Bill, Expense, or Check) you want to create

2. Enter the Payee

3. In the Category column, select the expense account for transaction

4. Enter the Description and Amount of the expense, then select the Billable checkbox

5. In the Customer column, select the customer you want to bill for this expense

(Optional) Enter or make sure the Markup % is correct, then select the Tax checkbox or choose a tax agency if you want to charge tax.

6. Hit Save and close.

To add the billable expense to invoices, follow these steps;

1. Select + New from the left menu and then Invoice

2. Use the Customer ▼ dropdown menu and choose the customer you created a billable expense for. This opens the Add to invoice window.

3. Select Add on the billable expense you want to charge to your customer
