Can someone explain how they got a card reader? There seems to be no easy way to inquire about one.

At this time, QuickBooks card readers are not available in Canada. However, QuickBooks Online has a great feature called Payments. This feature enables your customers to pay directly from the invoice that was emailed to them. I recommend review this article to see if this is something you might be interested in.
