Question

Can you snap a receipt for a refund/return and have QuickBooks recognize it as a negative dollar amount? How do you process and store refund receipts?

I purchased job materials from Home Depot and then returned some of the items in a separate transaction as a refund. I want to upload the refund receipt to QuickBooks but not have the total be listed as an expense, throwing my numbers off.

Hi info-valkyrieele,

Welcome to Community!  QuickBooks Online Receipts feature is a great timesaver that creates transactions for you after uploading your receipt or bill.  I'll be happy to provide more information so you're on the right track with reaching your QuickBooks goals!

At this time the snap receipt feature is designed specifically for expenses and the amount must be greater than zero.  In this situation, you'll need to manually record the refund by entering a credit or refund from a vendor.

Please don't hesitate to reach back out if you have other questions.  We're glad to help!
