Customizing a Sales Receipt Template

I need to customize our sales receipt but it's not working.  I copied the "Custom Sales Receipt" so I had a copy to play with.  I want to get rid of the "Cheque No." and "Payment Method" because I do not know how the customer is going to pay the retainer so those fields are always blank.  I'd like to change those to "Due Date" and "Project/Job".  I have no problem with how to customize it.  I've changed our invoice template so this should be no different.  I get it all customized in the Data Layout window, the preview window looks fine and when I save and close that up, the Sales Receipt does not change.  I still have the Cheque No. and Payment Method there and not the windows I want to replace them with.  I can't figure out why it won't change.  Any thoughts?

Hello Diane18,

As always, it's great to hear from you! It definitely sounds like you're well versed with the ins and outs of customizing your QuickBooks Desktop form templates so that they have the wording and style you're looking for. I can lend a hand with figuring out why the sales receipt is still showing the unwanted headings.

Since you're still seeing the old style on your sales receipt, my first recommendation is to ensure that you've switched the form style to the new one you've just created. Similarly to with invoice styles, the option to change this is just under the toolbar on the Enter Sales Receipts window. Just look for the Template field and you'll be able to select the one you want. This is especially important if you're looking at an existing receipt, and it doesn't hurt to double-check that you've got it selected anyway. I know I forget to change it from time to time!

If that still doesn't make a difference, I recommend connecting with our support team so that a member of that team can take a closer look at this with you to figure out what's going on. I know I've shared the details with you before, but if you need them again, here's how to get in touch with QuickBooks Desktop support: Intuit QuickBooks Desktop software support policies

All the best to you!
