Question

How can I request a deposit from someone and then have them pay the remainder of the balance at a later date without having to send multiple invoices?

Hi there info-creativemod,

It's vital that all your transactions are entered correctly so that your customers can pay the correct balance. QuickBooks Online Payments is a great tool able to help you receive payments for your services directly from the invoice you've sent to your customers. I can provide some information about invoices and deposits.

If you're using QuickBooks Payments, when a customer clicks on the option to pay now, it's for the entirety of the invoice. If you're wanting them to pay in two separate payments using QuickBooks Payments, they would need to be divided into two different invoices. If you're having them pay you in another method than using QuickBooks Payments, you could create a specific line item for the deposit so that it can be seen by your customer, or you can add it as a note on the invoice.
